After the Air India Boeing 787 accident that took place in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, an American aviation safety organization has now put forward old technical concerns regarding this aircraft model. The US-based Foundation for Aviation Safety says that they are not referring to any particular aircraft, but to the entire Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. According to the organization, about 2,000 cases of technical faults related to the 787 model have been registered over the years, which also include serious incidents like fire during flight.
Ahmedabad plane crash investigation underway
The organization has clarified that it is too early to say whether the plane that crashed in Ahmedabad may have been a victim of these problems in the past, but an official investigation into the accident is still going on and all technical aspects are being examined before reaching any conclusion. However, after the interim report released in July, the debate has intensified whether the questions already being raised regarding the design and manufacturing quality of Boeing 787 could have any connection with this accident.
American safety group raised questions on Boeing 787
The organization says that this aircraft is very modern, but its entire system depends on electricity, hence even a small fault can become a big danger. The Boeing 787 runs mostly on electric systems and has several generators and electric pumps. The company says that it has fewer wires than older planes, which reduces weight and saves fuel, but this also means that the entire control remains dependent on electricity.
Boeing Company has currently refused to comment on these claims of the safety group. Investigating agencies say that until the final report comes, it would not be right to hold any one cause or any one plane responsible.
‘Lack of quality control is a threat to passengers’ lives’
However, the American Safety Group says that even after being in service for so many years, questions remain about the quality of the Boeing 787 and government reports have revealed things like water getting into electrical parts, repeated failure of some equipment and fitting defects in some parts of the structure. According to the organization, Boeing 787 is ahead in terms of technology, but delay in safety-related improvements and lack of quality control can become a threat to the lives of passengers.
