Former Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached Sultanpur in UP on Friday (February 20, 2026). During this, he recorded his statement in the MP-MLA court. If Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla is to be believed, he termed his statement baseless and called the case politically motivated. The next hearing of this case is to be held on March 9.

What is the whole matter?

This matter is about 8 years old. In a press conference during the Karnataka Assembly elections, Rahul had made an objectionable comment on the then BJP National President and present Home Minister Amit Shah. Angered by this comment, Sultanpur BJP leader and former co-operative chairman Vijay Mishra had filed a case. This was accepted by the court about three years ago. Also ordered to prosecute Rahul.

Rahul got bail in this case last year

In this case, on February 20 last year, Rahul Gandhi had reached Sultanpur and got his bail. On July 26, MP MLA had also recorded his statement in the court. On January 6, the date of hearing was fixed for January 19 in MP MLA Court. Under Section 313, Rahul Gandhi was personally summoned and directed to record his statement. Rahul Gandhi did not appear in the court that day.

According to prosecution lawyer Santosh Pandey, on February 20, Rahul Gandhi was given the last chance to appear in the court and record his statement. For this, Rahul Gandhi reached the Civil Court of Sultanpur today and after reaching the MP MLA Court, he recorded his statement. According to Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla, Rahul described his statement as baseless and politically motivated. However, the next hearing of this case is to be held on March 9, 2026.
