Rajpal Yadav was lodged in Tihar jail in a check-bounce case related to his 2012 film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’. His bail hearing was held today, on 16th February and the court has given a big relief to the actor and approved his bail. Delhi High Court has given permission to attend his niece’s wedding. Actor Rajpal Yadav has got interim bail till March 18.
Court had given ultimatum to deposit DD of Rs 1.5 crore
Delhi High Court had given time till 3 pm to Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer to deposit a demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore in the name of the defendant for interim bail. Delhi High Court said that if you deposit the demand drama by 3 pm today, we will release you, if not then we will hear the matter tomorrow morning. Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer informed the HC that he has deposited a DD of Rs 1.5 crore. After this, the actor got interim release to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur. However, the actor has been ordered to surrender his passport. Now the next hearing of the case Will be held on March 18.
Bail was not granted on 12th February
Earlier on 12th February, Delhi High Court had strongly reprimanded the actor in the hearing held on 12th February and had said that we may sympathize with you but the law is in its place. You did not surrender despite the court’s order and then when the court ordered you again, you surrendered. Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer sought interim bail to attend the wedding of elder brother’s daughter.
Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer assured the court that he is ready to deposit the remaining amount in the court, and has extended a helping hand to the Bollywood industry and others. However, the court had postponed the bail and fixed the hearing on February 16.
Rajpal Yadav had surrendered on 5th February.

On Wednesday night, singer Mika Singh shared a video on Instagram in which he told that he has given Rs 11 lakh to support the Hera Pheri actor. He had also appealed to Bollywood directors and producers to come forward and show their support.
What is the matter?
Rajpal Yadav is accused of borrowing Rs 5 crore from Delhi’s Murali Projects Private Limited for his directorial debut film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’ in 2010. However, after the film flopped at the box office, Rajpal was unable to return the money to the organization, leading to a court case. In 2018, a magisterial court convicted him and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act in April 2018. After seven checks given to the complainant bounced, the actor was sentenced to six months of simple jail.
Later in early 2019, a sessions court upheld the sentence. Rajpal Yadav finally appealed in the High Court. In June 2024, the court suspended his sentence and took “honest and genuine steps&rdquo to make him pay the outstanding amount. Gave relief for some time by giving instructions to raise the amount, which had increased to about Rs 9 crore. However, on February 2, the High Court directed Rajpal to surrender, noting that the actor had repeatedly broken his promises given to the court to return the amount to the complainant.
