Why did Ranbir Kapoor reject ‘Ramayana’ earlier?
On Tuesday, Ranbir, along with director Nitish Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, attended an event of his upcoming film ‘Ramayan’ in Los Angeles, New York where the first glimpse of the film was shown. While speaking at the event, Ranbir revealed that he had initially rejected the project, and then revealed what finally changed his mind and made him join the film. Recalling his hesitation, Ranbir said, “I remember when Namit offered me this role about 4 years ago, my immediate answer was ‘no’, I’m not fit for it, I’m not good enough for it, and I wouldn’t be able to do complete justice to this role.”
This thing changed my thinking
He talked about the coincidence between the film offer and the news of becoming a father for the first time. Ranbir said, “That fear very soon turned into gratitude, because there was a great need for such opportunities in my life. I was going through a phase of my life where I needed to bring about a change in my life and lifestyle. I had become a father for the first time. I think this lovely coincidence of playing the character of Lord Ram and becoming a father was very important to bring a turning point in my life.”
Let us tell you that after dating for many years, Ranbir married Alia Bhatt in April 2022. In November that year, their daughter Raha was born. Ranbir and Alia surprised their fans by making their first public appearance with Raha on the occasion of Christmas 2023.
How to prepare for the role of Lord Ram in Ramayana?
The actor also told how he had prepared to play this role perfectly. Ranbir said, “I think the preparation for me started the day I watched Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’. It is so deeply embedded in our consciousness and is so deeply ingrained in us that we are very proud of this story and the journey of Lord Ram. When I got the opportunity to play his character, obviously, it took a lot of preparation, not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. It was very important to understand this story and understand it completely. It’s about being honest. I have a lot of love and respect for the character and the story of ‘Ramayana’, so when this feeling is already present inside you, everything falls into place.”
About ‘Ramayana’
Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ will be released in two parts. Its first part will be released on Diwali this year while the second part will be released on Diwali in 2027. Let us tell you that the first, 3-minute glimpse of ‘Ramayana’ was shown on July 3, 2025. The clip had powerful visuals, in which Ranbir was shown climbing a tree and shooting a bow and arrow. In this film, Yash will be seen as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Laxman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.
Recently, producer Namit Malhotra had told that a glimpse of the film will be shown on the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on April 2. It is believed that in the new glimpse, the audience will get to see the looks of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey, Sunny Deol and Yash in the film.
