Jammu Kashmir vs Karnataka Final Match Draw: Jammu and Kashmir has created history by winning the Ranji Trophy title for the first time. In the final match played in Hubli, Jammu & Kashmir vs Karnataka match was a draw, but Jammu & Kashmir became the winner. From fast bowler Aaqib Nabi to Kamran Iqbal, many players were the heroes of this historic title win of Jammu and Kashmir. But the question being asked is how the winner was declared even though the final match was a draw.
How did Jammu and Kashmir become champion without winning?
Actually, the rule of first innings lead is applied in the Ranji Trophy final. If no result is achieved after five days of play, the winner is decided on the basis of first innings lead.
Jammu and Kashmir had scored 584 runs in the first innings. In response, Karnataka’s first innings was all out for only 293 runs. In such a situation, Jammu and Kashmir had a huge lead of 291 runs in the first innings. Now the result of the match could not be determined, hence on the basis of this lead of 291 runs, Karnataka lost and Jammu and Kashmir was declared the champion.
Aaqib Nabi was the hero of victory
Fast bowler Aaqib Nabi made a huge contribution in this historic victory of Jammu and Kashmir. Aaqib Nabi was the highest wicket taker in this tournament, he took a total of 60 wickets in 17 innings. There were seven such occasions when he took 5 or more wickets in an innings.
The second highest wicket taker for Jammu and Kashmir in the tournament was Sunil Kumar, who sent 31 batsmen to the pavilion. Sunil’s figures are half that of Aaqib Nabi, from this it can be estimated how Nabi led the bowling line-up of Jammu and Kashmir on his shoulders alone.
