‘Reform-oriented budget’, praised by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has praised the Union Budget 2026-27. He termed it a ‘reform-oriented’ budget and said that Assam and the entire eastern region will benefit significantly.

Himanta Biswa Sarma made several posts on social media platform X, in which he listed several points of the budget. He said that Assam is going to benefit in many aspects. Himanta said in his post, ‘Congratulations to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Honorable Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting the Developed India Budget-2026. This budget strikes an excellent balance between India’s global aspirations and grassroots development.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Budget 2026-27 is a ‘reform-oriented’ budget and it will significantly benefit the entire eastern region of the country including the state. Assembly elections are to be held in Assam in March-April this year. He said, ‘The announcement of Self Help Centers (SHE-Marts) from the budget will further strengthen Assam’s efforts towards creating a strong network of Lakhpati Didis under MMUA.’

Himanta Biswa Sarma said the emphasis on skill development in the budget is in line with Assam’s vision to emerge as a hub of skilled workers in healthcare, artificial intelligence and allied sectors. The Chief Minister said, ‘In this budget, a provision of Rs 2 lakh crore has been made under special assistance for capital investment to the states, which will accelerate the infrastructure activities in Assam.’

The Chief Minister also mentioned that there is a provision of Rs 6,812 crore for the development of the North-East in the FY 2027 budget, underscoring the Modi government’s continued focus on the region. He said that the continuous emphasis on fiscal discipline and price stability in the budget is equally commendable.
