Sanjay Leela Bhansali was born on 24 February in Gujarat. He belongs to a film family, due to which he got exposure to cinema since childhood. He has directed more than 10 films till now. Many of his films have proved to be superhits and blockbusters. ‘Padmavat’ earned more than Rs 300 crore and became a blockbuster. ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ were also big hits.
‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas’ are still counted among the classic films. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was also liked by the audience. Whereas films like ‘Black’ were appreciated by the critics. Bhansali has received 5 National Awards so far and has also been honored with Padma Shri.
The films did not perform at the box office but became memorable.
However, not every film of Bhansali was a big hit at the box office. ‘‘Saawariya’ could not perform as per expectations and was considered a flop. ‘Guzaarish’ also managed to earn less than average. His first film ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ was not successful at the box office, but it was highly appreciated by the critics.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has now shown his grandeur on the OTT platform also. His web series ‘Hiramandi’ was a high budget project. This series was based on the lives of courtesans in the pre-independence era.
