Sanju Samson has passed the Super-8 exam despite scoring less runs. He scored 24 runs in the Super-8 match against Zimbabwe. He was brought into the playing eleven in place of Rinku Singh. There was a lot of hype about Samson, but this time also he could score only 24 runs in 15 balls. But even after playing an inning of 24 runs, to some extent he did the work for which he was brought in the playing eleven. Sanju Samson opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma in the Super-8 match against Zimbabwe.
Passed even after scoring 24 runs, how?
Till now, Team India was continuously getting bad starts in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The main reason for this was the poor form of Abhishek Sharma. Till now, only once in the entire tournament had India’s opening pair been able to add more than 10 runs. India’s opening batsmen had added 25 runs against Namibia, but apart from that, the opening pair was not able to touch even the 10-run mark in each match.
Sanju Samson along with Abhishek Sharma added 48 runs against Zimbabwe. Together they scored 48 runs in 3.4 overs, which is the biggest partnership made by India’s opening batsmen in this World Cup. Samson hit 1 four and 2 sixes in his 15-ball innings.
Sanju Samson had earlier got the opportunity to open in all the 5 matches of the T20 series against New Zealand. But could score only 46 runs in 5 innings. In the World Cup match against Namibia, he scored 22 runs in 8 balls. Due to this poor form, he was not getting a chance in the playing eleven. Even against Zimbabwe, he scored only 24 runs, but these 24 runs left the impact that Team India needed.
