She told, ‘I met him recently in the month of Ramadan. I had seen her interview in which she was talking about Ramzan, Eid and fasting. I was very surprised. He gave a beautiful message of unity and goodwill. I was so happy to hear that I called to talk to him.
Talking further about Asha Bhosle, Saira Banu said, ‘That was the last time I spoke to her. At that time I had no idea that I would fall ill so soon. I was very surprised. I remember the last time I saw her was when she went to Arjun Tendulkar’s wedding. She was looking very weak at that time. That was the last time I saw him. I was very shocked to see him. I had not even thought that she would suddenly become so ill.
During this, Saira Banu also remembered her first meeting with Asha Bhosle. She said, ‘I first met Ashaji during a recording. At that time, there was a live orchestra outside the recording studio and there was a cubicle with a mic for the singers. Ashaji, Lataji, Mohammed Rafi saab and Mukeshji were very nice people who used to let us actors sit in the cubicle with them. We watched many live recordings.
Saira Banu further said, ‘At the time of recording, Ashaji used to give me signals from time to time. She had already told me that she was fine-tuning her voice for me. I was a newcomer at that time. I was very young. She came straight into films after school. I was thin and had a delicate voice.
