There has been a big upheaval in the politics of Assam today. Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi officially left Congress and joined BJP. Bordoloi took membership of BJP in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reacted to Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Pradyot Bordoloi joining BJP. CM Himanta said, ‘Nagaon MP Pradyot Bordoloi has joined BJP. His history with Congress goes back to 1975. His coming to BJP will strengthen the party. We all welcome him to the party. Assam Pradesh BJP will recommend to the central leadership that they should contest the assembly elections. If there is no reason left for a person to stay in Congress with his self-respect, then there is no point in staying there. Our aim is to bring more Congress leaders into the party.
Pradyut Bordoloi had resigned from all his posts and primary membership from Congress yesterday itself. He had sent a one-line resignation letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Today, after just 24 hours, he joined BJP. According to sources, the entire team of Assam BJP was active in his joining.
