Shocking incident in Telangana, 600 dogs were poisoned and killed, know what is the whole matter

A picture of human cruelty has come to light which has shocked the entire Telangana. Around 500 to 600 stray dogs were allegedly poisoned to death in the last few days in Faridpet, Bhavanipet, Wadi and Palavancha villages under Machereddy mandal of Kamareddy district. The allegation is that this mass murder was conspired by the newly elected sarpanches of these villages. After the complaint of ‘Gautam Stray Animals Foundation’, the police have registered an FIR in this matter and started investigation.

The incident started when suddenly dead bodies of dogs started being found in various villages of Machereddy mandal. According to local eyewitnesses, recently elected sarpanches adopted this “shortcut” during elections to end the increasing number of stray dogs and their alleged terror in rural areas. It is being told that these voiceless people were brutally killed by mixing poison in their food or through poisonous injections and then their bodies were secretly disposed of to hide the evidence.

What was the reaction of the Supreme Court regarding stray dogs?

The Supreme Court had recently clarified on the problem of stray dogs that it has not ordered to destroy the dogs, but has asked to manage them as per ‘animal birth control’ rules. However, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, killing dogs in this manner is not only unethical but also a punishable offence. Kamareddy police, on the basis of preliminary investigation, registered a case against the concerned sarpanches and their associates under the Indian Penal Code (BNS) A case has been registered under relevant sections.

How was the matter revealed?

This horrific case came to light when animal rights activists and ‘Stray Animals Foundation India’ (SAFI) The representatives got wind of this. Foundation officer Adulapuram Gautam reached the spot, collected evidence and lodged a complaint with the police. He alleged that the elected representatives have committed this crime by ignoring the law.

This incident has happened at a time when reports of attacks by stray dogs have been in the news in many parts of Telangana. However, experts believe that choosing the path of mass murder instead of implementing government measures like sterilization and vaccination reflects the failure of the administration and local leadership.
