Shubman Gill did not get a place in the 2026 T20 World Cup team, 5 more big stars also missing; see full squad

Shubman Gill is not a part of India’s T20 World Cup team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member Team India for the 2026 World Cup on December 20, from which Shubman Gill is missing. This shocking decision is because Gill had been the vice-captain of the T20 team for the last 2-3 months. Apart from him, many big stars are missing from the World Cup squad. See here the list of those players who have not got a place in the World Cup team.

5 big stars missing from World Cup squad

Shubman Gill- The biggest name missing from the World Cup squad Shubhman Gill Ka, who had been holding the post of vice-captain since his return to the T20 team in August 2025. Unfortunately, his T20 form has been very poor in the last matches, and he has not been able to score a single half-century in T20 matches this year.

Rishabh Pant- The second big name is Rishabh Pant, who is the vice-captain of the Test team but has not been a regular part of the T20 squad. As wicketkeepers, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have got a place in the World Cup squad. In such a situation, Samson can be given priority in the playing eleven.

Mohammad Siraj- Mohammed Siraj last played a T20 match for India in January 2025. Since then, Harshit Rana has remained a regular part of the T20 team as a fast bowler. BCCI has entrusted the responsibility of pace attack for the World Cup to Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. After looking at the squad, it becomes clear that Harshit Rana has been fit in place of Siraj in the T20 team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal- Yashasvi Jaiswal was a part of the 2024 T20 World Cup champion Team India. Despite an average of 36 and a strike rate of 164.31 in international T20 cricket, it is unfortunate that Jaiswal is not getting a place in the team. But there are still many opening options in the squad. In such a situation, perhaps it was very difficult to fit Jaiswal in the squad.

Jitesh Sharma- The absence of Jitesh Sharma also in the squad is a shocking fact. Sanju Samson remained sitting on the bench in the T20 series against South Africa and Australia, but Jitesh Sharma played as wicketkeeper. Jitesh has been dropped even after playing 2 consecutive series. Ishan Kishan has got a place in the team as the second wicketkeeper.

Indian squad for T20 World Cup: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Axar Patel (vice-captain), Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakraborty, Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper).
