For what reason will the stock market remain closed?
The Maharashtra government has declared today i.e. 15 January 2026 as a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This holiday has been given due to the elections to be held in 29 municipal corporations of the state, so that people can cast their votes easily. On this day, there will be a large number of voting in the entire state including Mumbai. For this reason, banks, government offices and PSUs will remain closed, and the stock market has also been kept closed. Earlier in the year 2017 also, the stock market remained closed during the elections.

Voting for the municipal elections will start from 7:30 am on January 15, 2026 and will continue till 5:30 pm. After this, the counting of votes will be done on 16 January 2026 and the results will be declared on the same day.
