Suryakumar Yadav has spoken openly about a big decision taken during the T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian captain admitted that it was his mistake to drop Akshar Patel from the playing eleven in the Super-8 match. He told that after the match he himself had apologized to Akshar.
A big decision was taken in the Super-8 match
India faced South Africa in the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup. In that match, the team management had decided to give a chance to Washington Sundar in place of Akshar Patel. This was a strategic decision, but it backfired on the field and India suffered its only defeat in the tournament.
In a recent interview, Suryakumar Yadav told that Akshar Patel was very angry with this decision and it was natural for him to be angry. He said, “Akshar was very angry and he should have been. He is an experienced player and has also captained a franchise team. After the match, I spoke to him and said that it was my mistake and I am sorry for it.”
There was a frank conversation the next day.
According to Suryakumar, the conversation was a bit difficult at that time, but Akshar Patel understood the situation. The next day both the players talked calmly and the matter ended there. Such honest conversations within the team helped in maintaining a positive atmosphere in the dressing room.
World Cup victory became an emotional moment
Axar Patel also shared his feelings after winning the T20 World Cup. He wrote on social media that winning the World Cup is every cricketer’s dream since childhood. However, this victory was also special for him because his son saw him playing for the first time sitting in the stadium.
India’s dominance in the final
In the final match, India won the title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India batted first and made a big score of 255 runs. In this, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dubey batted brilliantly. In reply, New Zealand team was limited to 159 runs only. With this victory, India created history and won the T20 World Cup for the third time and also became the first team to win the title for the second consecutive time.
