The country is celebrating 77th Republic Day today. In such a situation, this time a new rocket launcher system ‘Suryastra’ and the recently formed Bhairav Light Commando Battalion will also be included in the formal parade to be held on the duty path of New Delhi.
BrahMos, Akash missile system, medium range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) system, Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATATGS), Dhanush cannon, Shaktiban and other defense assets will be showcased in the parade. This parade will be led by Lieutenant General Bhavneesh Kumar, General Officer Commanding of Delhi Area.
‘Around 6,000 defense personnel will participate in the parade’
PTI quoted Delhi Area Chief of Staff Major General Navraj Dhillon as saying that this time around 6,000 defense personnel will participate in the parade. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa will be the chief guests of the parade. The theme of this parade will be ‘150 years of Vande Mataram’.
This battalion is joining for the first time
Captain Harshita Raghav said that this time new things like rocket launcher ‘Suryastra’ equipped with deep-strike capabilities, newly formed Bhairav Light Commando Battalion, four Zanskar ponies, 2 Bactrian camels, 4 eagles and some army dogs will also be included in the Republic Day parade. The Universal Rocket Launcher System (URLS) ‘Suryastra’ is capable of launching surface-to-surface missiles from a range of up to 300 kilometres.
The Bhairav Light Commando Battalion, which was raised around October 2025 and made its first appearance at the Army Day parade in Jaipur on January 15, has been inducted to bridge the gap between infantry and special forces, the report said. Cavalry members of the 61st Cavalry, equipped with munitions, along with key Army assets and personnel including indigenous platforms, will make their first parade in the formal Republic Day parade on the duty line.
Shaktiban Regiment equipped with drones, counter-drones and loiter munitions deployed in artillery will participate in the parade for the first time. Apart from this, a Mix Scouts contingent wearing heavy thermal gear will also participate for the first time in the parade on the duty path.
