Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Australian government of promoting anti-Semitism in the period before Sunday’s shootings in Sydney. The Israeli Prime Minister said, “Three months ago I wrote to the Australian Prime Minister that your policy is adding fuel to the fire of anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is a cancer that spreads when leaders remain silent and take no action.”
Israeli President expressed condolences on social media
On the social media platform X, the Israeli President wrote, “Our condolences to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Sydney, who were attacked by evil terrorists when they went to light the first candle of Hanukkah.”
The Israeli President further said that he spoke to David Ossip, Chairman of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, and expressed his condolences to the grieving families and offered prayers for the injured on behalf of Israel. David Osip was the speaker of this program.
He said, “We have repeatedly called on the Australian government to take action and fight against the huge wave of anti-Semitism sweeping Australian society. Our thoughts are with the Sydney Jewish community and the entire Australian Jewish community at this terrible time.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote on Twitter, “I am shocked by the shooting at the Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia. This is the result of anti-Semitic violence on the streets of Australia over the past two years. The Australian government has been given countless warnings, it should come to its senses.”
According to local media, police say that despite the two shooters being controlled, people should still stay away from Bondi Beach. There is a threat of bomb in the area. They are working to defuse an improvised explosive device.
