Tamil Nadu News: Police have arrested 19-year-old Velmurugan, a tourist van driver, under the POCSO Act for trying to rape a Class 10 student in Papanasam area of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. In this case, the search is on for two other people who helped the accused.
According to the police, Velmurugan is the son of Thirunavukarasu of Thirumanur area and he used to transport devotees visiting temples in a van. There was already a friendship between the student and Velmurugan. On 23rd, Velmurugan, after regularly taking the devotees in the van, asked the student to sit in the van. At that time, his friends Veer (resident of Papanattai) and Kannan (57, resident of Tirucherai area near Nachiyarcoil) were also present with him.
All three tried to rape the student
According to the police, the three tried to rape the student by stopping the van away from public view. Due to fear, the student pushed Velmurugan and ran away from there. The student informed her parents about this incident. After this she lodged a complaint at Papanasam All Women Police Station. The investigation led by Inspector Vanitha revealed that Velmurugan tried to misbehave with the student.

After this, Papanasam All Woman Police registered a case under POCSO Act and arrested Velmurugan. Apart from this, search is on for Veer and Kannan who helped in this. This incident has spread sensation in Papanasam area.
