Tamil Nadu News: In a major action, the Anti-Corruption Bureau police in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, have arrested a tap inspector and a plumber of Coimbatore Corporation on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. Both the accused were caught red handed while taking bribe in exchange for giving new water connection.
According to the information received, a house owner in Kempatti Colony had applied to the Coimbatore Corporation office to get a new water connection for his house. It has been told that the Assistant Commissioner had also given permission for this connection. After this, the work of connection was entrusted to Tap Inspector Mohan and Plumber Easwaran, working in the water supply office located below the Gandhi Park Water Tank.
Demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in exchange for giving connection
The victim alleged that Mohan and Easwaran demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in exchange for laying a water pipeline in his house and providing a connection. When both of them insisted on paying the money first, the owner of the house lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Anti-Corruption Bureau (DVAC) office. Based on the complaint, a team was formed under the leadership of Anti-Corruption Bureau Inspectors Murugesan and Prabhudas and a surveillance operation was started. Under the scheme, the house owner was given Rs 5,000 laced with chemical powder, which he handed over to Tap Inspector Mohan. It was told that Mohan had asked to give this amount to plumber Easwaran.
Strict action continues against those demanding bribe
Both the accused accepted the bribe amount, the Anti-Corruption Bureau team present at the spot raided and arrested both of them. Traces of chemical powder were also found on his hands, which confirmed that he had taken bribe. The Anti-Corruption Bureau police have registered a case against both the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway. Officials said that strict action will continue against those demanding bribe in exchange for government services.
