A statement by Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam is in discussion these days. He has given such a statement regarding the workers and employment coming from North India, on which the political debate has intensified. There are sharp reactions to the minister’s statement from social media to politics.
Speaking at a public event, Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam said that people from North India come to South India, especially Tamil Nadu, to work like cleaning tables, working as laborers and selling panipuri. He said that the reason for this is that there is a lack of employment in their states and the people there are limited to only Hindi language.
What did you say to the people of North India?
The minister further said that people in North India do not learn any other language other than Hindi, due to which they do not get many employment opportunities. For this reason they come to states like Tamil Nadu and work as labourers. He also said that Tamil Nadu has always adopted a two-language policy, where importance is given to English along with Tamil. According to MRK Panneerselvam, the youth of Tamil Nadu are going to foreign countries and doing good jobs because of their knowledge of English. He said that many youth of the state are working in countries like London, America and earning crores of rupees. Giving credit to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for this, the Minister said that he promoted computer education and modern education in the state, due to which the youth here are becoming successful today.
Mentioned about boys from villages of Tamil Nadu
MRK Panneerselvam also said that boys from villages in Tamil Nadu are also getting employment in foreign countries because they are ahead in both language and technology. After this statement of the minister, controversy has started in political circles. Opposition parties have called it an insult to North Indians, while some people are considering it as an issue of debate on language and education policy.
