Tamil Nadu: Young man was not repaying the loan, brutally murdered by cutting him with a sickle, life imprisonment to 4 culprits

Tamil Nadu News: A heart-wrenching case exposing the cruelty of usury has come to light from Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. A young man was brutally murdered over a dispute over debt pressure and recovery of money. In this case, the Kumbakonam Court has given a big verdict and has sentenced four accused to life imprisonment and the main conspirator to 14 years in jail.

Borrowed Rs 3 lakh to repay loan

Sivasubramanian (54), resident of Panadurai Pathukattu Street, Kumbakonam, used to run a grocery shop in the area. He had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from Senthilkumar of the same area for the shop work and to repay the old loan. It is alleged that Shivasubramanian had till now paid around Rs 3 lakh as interest on the loan.

Sivasubramanian was not able to return the loan amount for some months. Due to this, the moneylenders started putting constant pressure on him. Due to mental stress, Sivasubramanian drank poison, after which he was admitted to the hospital.

Dispute in the shop, son murdered

On May 1, 2019, Sivasubramanian’s 22-year-old son Arun was present at the shop. Meanwhile, Senthilkumar reached the shop to ask for money and started fighting with Arun. Later Senthilkumar informed Balaguru about this dispute. On Balaguru’s instigation, Senthilkumar reached the shop with his friends Venkatesan, Chandrasekaran, Kathirvan and Jeevakaruna alias Mohammad Shabir. Everyone together beat up Arun and brutally killed him by cutting him with a sickle.

In this matter, Kumbakonam East Police registered a case and arrested Balaguru, Senthil, Venkatesan, Chandrasekaran and Kathirvan, while Jeevakaruna absconded. The case was heard in the Kumbakonam Additional District Sessions Court. The judge sentenced Balaguru to 14 years in jail and four other accused to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 11,000 each.

The person who broke the lock of the house and stole it was arrested

Police have arrested the accused in a case of major theft by breaking the lock of a locked house in Thanjavur. The accused had stolen 13 gold ornaments and 765 grams of silver items. On December 19, Priyanka locked her house and went to her relative’s place. When he returned on December 21, he found the door of the house broken.

During investigation, Taluka police, with the help of forensic team, collected fingerprints, which matched those of Naveen Kumar, a habitual criminal of Perambalur district. The police went to Perambalur and arrested 25-year-old Naveen Kumar and recovered all the stolen gold and silver jewelery from him. Police is investigating further.
