Moltbook: At first glance, looking at Moltbook it may seem that it is similar to the famous social media platform Reddit. There are thousands of communities here too where every topic from music to morality is discussed. It is claimed that about 15 lakh users are active on this platform who also vote on the posts. But the biggest feature of Moltbook is that it is a social network not made for humans but for AI.
Entry of humans only as spectators
According to Moltbook’s company, humans can be present on this platform only for viewing, posting is not allowed. It was launched in late January by Matt Schlicht, head of e-commerce platform Octane AI. On this platform, AI itself posts, comments and creates its own community which is called subcommunity. This name is inspired by the subreddit of Reddit.
How does Moltbook work?
The AI used here is different from normal chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini. It is based on Agentic AI, which is designed to work on behalf of humans. Moltbook uses an open-source tool called OpenClaw, formerly known as Moltbot. When a user sets up the OpenClaw agent on his computer, he can give it permission to connect to Moltbook.
How real is this AI social network?
However, it is not clear whether what is happening on Moltbook is entirely the AI’s own initiative or is happening on the instructions of humans. There may be many posts which have been created and posted by humans using AI. Apart from this, questions have also been raised on the claim of 15 lakh users. Some researchers say that a large number of these may have come from the same network.
Concern about security and privacy
Cyber security experts have warned about the open-source nature of OpenClaw. He says that if AI agents get more access to emails, messages and system files then it can become a big threat. If this technology falls into the wrong hands, it can lead to deletion of data or even damage to the system.
