The process of special intensive simulation (SIR) has started at the ground level to collect information about voters in Shaheen Nagar and Saadath Nagar areas of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. Pictures of the door-to-door survey teams have surfaced, which show that this ambitious campaign of the Election Commission (ECI) will soon take a formal form in Telangana too.
In view of the announcements of the country’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the latest reports of January 2026, these activities have, in a way, started the work of clearing the electoral chessboard in the state.
What did CEC say regarding SIR in Telangana in December 2025?
In fact, the Election Commission has implemented the SIR process in a phased manner to purify the voter lists at the nationwide level. Its first phase has been completed in Bihar, while the second phase is underway or nearing completion in states like Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
Although Telangana is not yet officially included in the list of the second phase, the activities and preparations visible at the local level are much more intense. In December 2025, the Chief Election Commissioner in Hyderabad had clarified that SIR would be rolled out soon in Telangana and it would prove to be a ‘role model’ like Bihar.
Work going on war footing at every level in the state
According to field reporting and sources, the survey teams seen in Shaheennagar and Saadathnagar are an indication that the administration is fully prepared. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana is also continuously holding video conferencing with the District Election Officers (DEOs) and Election Registration Officers (EROs) regarding its preparations. Not only this, the work of linking the old voter lists of 2002-2004 is also going on on a war footing, so that the identity of every voter can be verified.
Indications are coming from the activities of the Election Commission
At present, no official notification of specific date has been issued for Telangana, but the Election Commission has indicated that SIR will start soon. This process will not only update the voter list but will also make it clean and transparent. The ground reality is that this mapping activity started in Shaheennagar is pointing towards the beginning of the upcoming election period in the state.
