Election dates have been announced for seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities in Telangana. The State Election Commission (SEC) announced in a press conference on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) that voting will be held on February 11, 2026.
This time, 52.43 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the elections and instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs), votes will be cast in the traditional manner on ballot paper. Counting of votes will take place on February 13, while elections for the posts of Mayor and President will be held on February 16, 2026.
State Election Commissioner released election schedule
State Election Commissioner I. Rani Kumudini gave detailed information while releasing the election schedule. According to him, candidates can file nominations from Wednesday (January 28, 2026), the last date of which has been fixed as Friday (January 30, 2026). After scrutiny of nomination papers, the list of valid nominations will be published on Saturday (January 31, 2026). The last date for withdrawal of names of the candidates is Tuesday next week (February 3, 2026) and the list of final candidates will also be released on the same day.
The number of women voters in the state is more than that of men.
According to the Commission, elections will be held in 2,996 wards and a total of 8,203 polling stations will be set up for voting. To run the election process smoothly, 16,031 ballot boxes have been arranged. Keeping in view the security arrangements, 137 strong rooms and 136 counting centers have been made.
Interestingly, the number of women voters in this election is more than men. Out of total 52.43 lakh voters, 26.80 lakh are women and 25.62 lakh are male voters, which is a symbol of the strength of democracy.
Elections will be fair and peaceful: Commission
The Election Commission has clarified that the counting of votes will start in the morning on February 13, 2026 and the results will be declared as soon as possible. Just three days after this, on February 16, the mayor, deputy mayor, president and vice-president will be elected by the councilors in the municipal bodies. The Commission has also assured that all arrangements have been completed to conduct fair and peaceful elections.
