A new controversy has arisen on the issue of defection in Telangana politics. Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has rejected the disqualification petitions filed against two BRS MLAs. After this decision, the political atmosphere in the state has heated up and the opposition has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government.
What has the speaker said in his decision?
The Speaker said in his decision that concrete evidence of MLAs changing parties has not been found, hence the petitions are rejected. The MLAs against whom the petition was filed include Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagendra. This decision has come at a time when this entire case was soon going to be heard in the Supreme Court of India.
After this decision, BRS has made serious allegations against the Congress government. Party’s working president K. T. Rama Rao said that this decision is against the democratic system. According to him, not taking action against the MLAs who have openly defected is a betrayal of public trust.
KTR’s allegation – This is not just a matter of two MLAs.
KTR alleged that this matter is not limited to just two MLAs, but is related to 10 MLAs who were accused of defection. He said that the Congress government is ignoring the rules and democratic traditions for political gains. The BRS leader also held Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responsible for this entire matter. He said that Rahul Gandhi often talks about protecting democracy and the Constitution, but what is happening in Telangana is completely opposite.
KTR’s concern – If relaxation continues…
KTR said that if such laxity continues to be given in cases of defection, it will be a very dangerous sign for democracy. He demanded that there should be transparency in this matter and clear answers should be given to the public. After this decision, the politics of the state has become even more intense.
BRS leaders say that they will raise this issue with both the court and the public. At the same time, Congress says that the Speaker has taken the decision under constitutional rights and there is no political intention in it.
