Thalapathy Vijay’s last film ‘Jana Nayakan’ was scheduled to release on January 9. However, Isri’s release was stopped after not getting approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Madras High Court has given a big decision on the censor certificate dispute. The court has given relief to Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayakan’ and approved its release.
Court approves the release of ‘Jana Nayakan’
The makers of ‘Jana Nayakan’ had moved the court against the delay in issuing CBFC certification for the film. On Friday morning, the High Court gave its verdict on the petition filed by the producers of ‘Jana Nayakan’. Madras High Court, accepting the petition filed by the producers of ‘Jana Nayakan’, has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to immediately issue ‘UA’ certificate. The court has quashed the letter issued by the CBFC chairman under which the film was referred to the review committee, saying the order was without jurisdiction.
What was the controversy over the certification of ‘Jana Nayakan’?
The issue of certification of ‘Jana Nayakan’ came into further controversy when a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sent a complaint to the chairperson. It was said that their objections were not taken into consideration before giving UA certificate to the film. After this complaint, CBFC sent the film to the revising committee. This was the reason why the release of the film kept getting postponed. Due to this the producers had to approach the Madras High Court.
The makers had called withholding the certificate arbitrary
The film producer argued in the court that the film had not been released yet nor had it been shown to any third party. Therefore, withholding the certificate on the basis of any complaint is arbitrary and unfair. The producers had demanded the court to order the issuance of the certificate immediately, so that the film could be released without further delay.
The makers of ‘Jana Nayakan’ had submitted the film to the Chennai office of the Central Board of Film Certification. The screening committee watched the film and recommended minor cuts regarding sexual violence, violence and some dialogues. The producers had made all the cuts and then the film was again sent to CBFC. But due to complaints the film went to the revising committee. Now with the issuance of the certificate after the court order, the way for the release of the film has been cleared.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film stars Thalapathy Vijay along with Pooja Hegde and Mamita Baiju in lead roles. The film is set to be released in four languages in 22 countries.
