It is reported that the actor’s wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has filed a divorce petition against the actor. This couple is going for divorce after almost 27 years of marriage.
Accused of extra marital affair
Actor Vijay’s wife Sangeeta has filed a divorce petition in Chengalpattu Family Court. Sangeeta has alleged in her petition that Vijay had an extra-marital affair with an actress. When this relationship came to light in April 2021, Vijay had assured her that he would end the relationship. But, this relationship continued, due to which he had to undergo severe mental stress.
Ban on asking questions
According to the application filed in the court, when she questioned her husband about this alleged affair, his behavior started changing. Sangeeta alleged that Vijay limited her domestic rights. Their movement was banned and many restrictions were imposed on economic matters as well. In the petition, Sangeeta has demanded divorce citing mental torture and cruelty. Sangeeta has filed a divorce petition under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. According to legal experts, under this law divorce can be demanded on grounds like adultery and cruelty.

Sangeeta and Thalapathy Vijay have been living separately for the last two years. Sangeeta belongs to a Sri Lankan Tamil family and was brought up in the United Kingdom. Vijay, known to his fans as Thalapathy, has recently distanced himself from films and started playing an active role in politics. His party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam is being seen as an emerging political force in Tamil Nadu.

Let us tell you that the marriage of Vijay and Sangeeta took place on 25 August 1999. Vijay is Christian and Sangeeta is Hindu. The couple got married as per Hindu customs, after which a grand reception was also held in Chennai. After marriage, Vijay and Sangeeta welcomed their first child, Jason Sanjay, in 2000 and daughter Divya Sasha was born in 2005. After 27 years of marriage, Sangeeta has now filed for divorce.
