The bail plea of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in the check bounce case was heard today in the Delhi High Court. Delhi High Court has given time till 3 pm to Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer to submit a demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore in the name of the defendant for interim bail. Delhi High Court said that if you deposit the DD by 3 pm today, we will release you. If we are not able to do so, we will hear the matter tomorrow morning.

The court had reprimanded the actor
Let us tell you that earlier on February 12, during the bail hearing in Rajpal Yadav’s check bounce case of Rs 9 crore, the Delhi High Court had strongly criticized the actor. The court said that Rajpal Yadav is in jail because he did not fulfill his earlier promises to return the money. The bench had said that even after giving several assurances and appearing in the court, he had not made the payment as promised. The actor had appealed to the court for bail to attend his niece’s wedding. But the High Court had postponed the bail hearing.

About Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles
Rajpal is in Tihar jail since February 5 in the check bounce case. His troubles started in 2010 when Rajpal had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from Delhi’s Murali Projects Private Limited for his directorial debut film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’ (2012). The film’s failure at the box office led to a payment crisis, leading to a legal battle, and in April 2018, a magisterial court convicted him and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. After seven checks given to the complainant bounced, the actor was sentenced to six months of simple jail, which was later upheld by a sessions court in early 2019.

In June 2024, the court granted him some relief by suspending his sentence and directing him to take “honest and genuine steps” to repay the outstanding amount, which had increased to around Rs 9 crore. But, soon after this, the pattern of missing deadlines and not fulfilling commitments started happening again and again. By October 2025, Yadav had deposited Rs 75 lakh through two demand drafts, but the court said most of the dues were still outstanding.
