These days there is a flood of fake smartphones in the market. Recently, Delhi Police has detected a gang, which was assembling fake Samsung Galaxy phones and selling them in the market. Police arrested four people and recovered 500 fake Galaxy smartphones from their possession. Police say that the accused were selling fake smartphones as real ones. Police have advised people to avoid such scams.
Police told the methods of protection
Police said that the accused used to order goods from abroad and assemble phones in Delhi and sell them to customers by luring them with low prices. Police cautioned people and said that they need to be careful while buying phones. People should always buy phones from authorized retailers only and verify the IMEI number while purchasing the phone.
How to identify real or fake phone
If you are buying a new phone and especially a premium smartphone, then look at its packaging carefully. Original phones always come in high quality and well sealed boxes. Always check the model number, serial number and IMEI number given on the box against the device. After unboxing, look at the phone carefully. The original phone will look brand new to you and there will be no visible defects in it. You can also identify it by operating the phone.
IMEI number will reveal all the secrets
You can find out the authenticity of the device by verifying the IMEI number. Every genuine phone has a unique IMEI number, which can be found by dialing *#06#. This number can be checked on the government website Sanchar Sathi or the website of the concerned company. To see it on Sanchar Saathi, first open the website and go to Citizen Centric Service. Here click on the ‘No genuineness of your mobile’ section. Here you will be asked captcha and mobile number. After OTP verification, you can submit the IMEI number. After this a new page will open, on which the complete details of your device will be visible to you.
