On Friday (26 December 2025), activists of ‘Hindu Samhati’ organization took out a rally to the Deputy High Commission office of Bangladesh in protest against the attacks against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. The rally started from Sealdah station in North Kolkata and moved towards the office of the Deputy High Commission at Beckbagan in the heart of the city. During this, the protesters raised slogans against the alleged atrocities on minority Hindus across the border.

Marched towards Deputy High-Commission of Bangladesh

The protesters said that they are planning to submit a memorandum demanding protection to Hindus in that country (Bangladesh) and strict legal action against those who commit violence against minorities. In order to prevent the protesters from reaching the premises, a large number of police forces were deployed and security barricades were installed around the Deputy High Commission office.

After being stopped by the police a few hundred meters before the destination, the protesters blocked AJC Bose Road in front of the Deputy High Commission office and started the protest. A protester leading the rally said, “We will reach the office of the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh today under any circumstances and submit our memorandum.”

This is the second attempt by a Hindu organization to march to the Deputy High Commission office after December 23. Leader of opposition in Bengal Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari is going to meet the Deputy High Commissioner along with leaders of several Hindu organizations.

Ban on stay of Bangladeshi citizens in Siliguri hotels

An organization of hotel owners in West Bengal has decided to temporarily ban providing accommodation to Bangladeshi citizens in Siliguri and its surrounding areas in view of the ongoing political turmoil in neighboring Bangladesh. According to a recent notice issued by the ‘Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association’, the decision is related to incidents that have strained India-Bangladesh relations, including alleged disrespect towards the Indian flag and inflammatory statements made by a section of Bangladeshi citizens.

The hotel organization said the move is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of guests and hotel staff in the current sensitive environment. An official of the organization said that the members of the association will not allow Bangladeshi citizens to ‘check-in’ at the hotel till further orders. Siliguri, located near the international border in North Bengal and a strategically sensitive corridor connecting mainland India with the north-eastern states, has been a major entry point for Bangladeshi visitors to India on tourist, medical and student visas.
