BJP has suffered a setback before the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. Popular actress of Bengali film industry and former BJP leader Parno Mitra has joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday (December 26, 2025). Praising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, she said that her journey has always been a source of inspiration for women like us.
Minister in Mamata government Chandrima Bhattacharya and party spokesperson Jai Prakash Majumdar included Parno Mitra in TMC at the party headquarters in the capital Kolkata. After joining TMC, leader and actress Parno Mitra said that I like Mamata Banerjee’s way of working. This is the reason why I am associated with them today for the welfare of the people.
Mamta Banerjee is doing good work for women- Mitra
On joining TMC before the elections, he said that the reason for this is our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She is doing very good work for the people of Bengal, especially women. She is the best person to work with.
Referring to her political career, she said, “When I thought that I will come into politics, I will work only for the public interest. Perhaps I did not get a chance to work as much as I aspired to. Since I am now with TMC, I will be very happy to work for my people.” She said that she has joined Trinamool Congress to correct her mistakes. Mitra said that this is my special day and I want to correct my mistake.
No one can work in BJP- Bhattacharya
At the same time, Chandrima Bhattacharya, minister in Mamata government, said that Parno Mitra herself said that at that time she thought that she would be able to work by joining BJP, but the truth is that no one can work in BJP, that is why she has joined our Trinamool Congress.
Parno Mitra was associated with BJP in 2019
It is noteworthy that Bengali film industry’s popular actress Parno Mitra had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the year 2019. After this, Bharatiya Janata Party had declared Parno Mitra as its candidate from Baranagar Assembly constituency in the West Bengal Assembly elections in the year 2021. In the then assembly elections of 2021, Parno Mitra had to face defeat against Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Tapas Roy.
