Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement regarding infiltrators in Assam. The Prime Minister had accused the Congress of expecting Assam and the North-Eastern states, while in power, to save infiltrators at the cost of the security and identity of the region.
Kharge said that BJP is in power at the Center and Assam. Instead of blaming the opposition, he should take responsibility for his failures. He said that the so-called double engine government is running in Assam. Still why is the Prime Minister blaming Congress?
‘How can PM blame opposition parties?’
The Congress President said, ‘How can he blame the opposition parties? His government is at the centre. They have their own government in Assam also. This is called double engine government. If they fail to provide security, how can they blame the opposition parties? Are we ruling there?
‘They are traitors, not us’
He said that Modi has made a habit of blaming the opposition whenever his government fails. Whenever he fails, he blames everything on the opposition. I condemn such statements. They are traitors, not us. We are not defending anyone. Whatever we do in the interest of the country, we will do it well, but will not support terrorists or infiltrators or others. He is just blaming them because he has failed to protect them and stop them.
PM had accused Congress during the rally in Assam
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a public rally after the inauguration of the new terminal of Guwahati Airport in Assam. During this, he took Congress into the dock and accused it of ignoring Assam and North East. It was said that infiltrators were allowed to settle in this area, which threatened its security and cultural identity.
Referring to the issue of SIR, PM Modi had said that the purpose of this exercise is to keep infiltrators out of the democratic process. Traitors are trying to save them. The central government is taking strict steps to stop infiltration. PM Modi had claimed that development of Assam and North East was never on the agenda of Congress. The BJP government is now correcting the mistakes of Congress for many decades. Under the double engine government, Assam is developing without any hindrance.
