Iran Dancing Missile: Iran has used its advanced ballistic missile for the first time amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to reports, Iran fired several missiles targeting targets associated with Israel and America, including its considered special Sejjil missile. According to Iranian media, this is the same missile which has been used for the first time since the war started. Its specialty is that it has the ability to change its direction in the air, hence it is also called dancing missile.
On which technology does Sejil missile work?
Sejjil missile is a two-stage solid fuel ballistic missile developed by Iran. It is considered to be prepared completely with indigenous technology. This missile is also known by other names like Sajjil, Ashoura or Ashura. This medium range missile can hit a range of about 2000 kilometers and is considered capable of carrying a payload of up to 700 kg.
Why was it named Dancing Missile?
This missile is called dancing missile because it can change its direction while flying at altitude. This makes it easy to confuse the enemy’s missile defense system. According to experts, this capability can help Israel’s defense system avoid technologies like Iron Dome.

According to America’s think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies, this missile is about 18 meters long and about 1.25 meters in diameter. Its total weight is said to be around 23,600 kg. Its solid fuel system gives it a strategic edge, because such missiles can be prepared and launched faster than older missiles with liquid fuel. Iran’s earlier Shahab missile series was based on liquid fuel.
When did its development begin?
Work on the development of the Segil missile began in the early 1990s. Its first test flight was done in 2008 in which it covered a distance of about 800 kilometers. After this, another test was conducted in 2009, in which it was tested to improve its guidance and navigation system. In subsequent years, many more tests were conducted and in one test it was successful in flying for about 1900 kilometers.
