What are the election results?
In the recently declared election results, counting is going on for 165 seats. Of these, Balen Shah’s RSP has won 55 seats. His party is leading on 66 seats. This party was formed four years ago by a journalist Rabi Lamichhane. Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is trailing Balen Shah by 43 thousand votes in Jhapa seat. Oli had won the elections from Jhapa-5 seat in 2017 and 2022.
Under which system are elections held in Nepal?
The electoral system in Nepal is mixed. Here members of Parliament are elected in two ways. Of these, one wins by direct election and the other by total votes received by the party. At present Nepal has completed the election process on the basis of party vote percentage. 110 seats in Nepal will be distributed on the basis of vote percentage received by the parties. Here the public does not vote for any candidate but directly for the party. Any party is given seats in the Parliament according to its vote percentage.
Balen Shah’s party has so far received 54.8 percent votes. Elections were held on 5 March. A total of 58% people have voted here. Counting of votes is expected to last for 3 to 4 days. The Election Commission has planned to complete voting by March 9.
Who is Balen Shah?
Balen Shah has been the former mayor of Kathmandu. He was born on 27 April 1990 in Kathmandu. He has studied from VNIT Nagpur. He became the first independent mayor of Kathmandu in the year 2022. He is a professional hip-hop and rap music artist. During this period he has won many battles. He is quite famous among the youth of Nepal. He has raised social and political issues in rap.
