YouTube New Update: Today, AI generated content is increasing rapidly on almost every social media platform including YouTube. According to a recent study, one in five videos on YouTube may be AI-generated while almost half of the Shorts recommended to new accounts are also made from AI. Such content is often called AI slop, i.e. digital content which is weak in quality and is created in large quantities only with the help of AI.
YouTube preparing to provide relief to users
In view of this growing problem, Google-owned YouTube has taken steps towards improving the search experience. The company has introduced new search filters whose purpose is to give users the freedom to decide what kind of content they want to see. YouTube says that these changes will make “advanced search tools more effective”.
Now you can hide shorts from search
YouTube has added a new Shorts filter to the ‘Type’ menu. With its help, users can completely hide Shorts from search results. This feature is especially beneficial for those who are tired of repeatedly appearing short, often 10–15 second videos made by AI and want to see longer, useful content.
No more ‘Sort by’, now ‘Prioritize’
YouTube has made another change in the search option. Now the name of ‘Sort by’ menu has been changed to ‘Prioritize’. Along with this, a new filter named ‘Popularity’ has been introduced in place of ‘View Count’ option. This new filter not only views but also takes into account other important indicators like watch time and shows the video up or down.
Some old options disappeared
Along with these new changes, YouTube has also removed some old filters. Now options like ‘Upload Date Last Hour’ and ‘Sort by Rating’ are not visible in search. At present it is not clear whether these options will return again or not, although Google has changed its decisions several times in the past.
It will take time to reach all users
Currently, these new search filters are visible only to a few users, which makes it clear that this change is being implemented in a phased manner. In such a situation, it may take some time for this feature to appear on all accounts.
