Stock Market Closing Today, 1 January: Today, on the second day of the new year i.e. 2nd January, Nifty and Nifty Bank index have made all time high. Today the Sensex closed at the level of 85,762.01 points with a gain of 0.67% i.e. 573.41 points. Whereas Nifty closed at the level of 26,328.55 points with a gain of 0.70% i.e. 182 points. During the day, while Nifty made an all-time high of 26,340 points, Nifty Bank made an all-time high of 60,203.75 points. Let us know today’s top gainer and loser shares.
Big reasons for the rise in stock market
Positive Global Signs: In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Shanghai’s SSE Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading in positive territory. US futures were also up 0.7 percent, indicating a strong start for Wall Street later in the day.

Buying in large-caps: Buying was seen in large-cap stocks, with Reliance Industries gaining nearly 1 per cent for the second consecutive session.
Continuous purchases by DIIs: Continued buying by domestic institutional investors supported the market.
Rupee rises: In the currency market, the rupee traded in a tight range in the morning session and rose 6 paise to 89.92 against the US dollar. Forex traders said the USD/INR pair is expected to remain range-bound as the 90 level is being protected by the Reserve Bank of India, even as positive domestic equities are neutralized by persistent foreign fund outflows.
Buying in Bank Shares: There was strong buying in bank shares on Friday after a positive business update for the December quarter, taking the Bank Nifty index to a new record high. Bank Nifty rose 0.73 per cent to hit an all-time high of 60,152.35, surpassing its previous peak of 60,114.30 recorded on December 1, 2025. The Nifty PSU Bank index rose 1.08 per cent, while the Nifty Private Bank index gained 0.56 per cent. Both indexes hit new lifetime highs during the session.
