Stock Market Closing Today, 8 January: The stock market closed with heavy losses for the fourth consecutive trading day today. Today the Sensex closed at the level of 84,180.96 points with a fall of 0.92% i.e. 780.18 points. Whereas Nifty closed at the level of 25,876.85 points with a fall of 1.01% i.e. 263.90 points. These are the main reasons for the decline in the market
FII selling: Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 1,527.71 crore on Wednesday, the third consecutive selling session after a short break on January 2, when they were modest buyers worth Rs 289.80 crore. FIIs have sold shares worth about Rs 5,760 crore so far in January, following record outflows in 2025.

Weekly Expiry: Thursday is the weekly expiry day for Sensex derivatives. On expiry days, traders liquidate or roll over positions, increasing trading volumes and increasing market volatility.
Weak Global Signals: Asian markets were trading lower, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng in the red. US markets closed mostly with losses on Wednesday.
