The lawyers of expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar informed the Supreme Court on Monday (December 29, 2025) that allegations are being made against the Delhi High Court judges who suspended Sengar’s sentence in the Unnao rape case, on which the Supreme Court commented that some people are trying to take political advantage.
Actually, Delhi High Court had suspended the life imprisonment of Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case. The court had said that he had already been in jail for seven years and five months.
Supreme Court bench commented
A vacation bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Augustine George Masih said, ‘We understand this. We are not ignorant of the truth. We understand that people are trying to take political advantage. Such people are forgetting that Sengar was convicted by the judiciary itself. To put it bluntly, these judges are among our finest judges.
Sengar’s lawyers argued in the court
Senior advocate N, appearing for Sengar. Hariharan said, ‘Some people are blaming the judges of Delhi High Court who are hearing this case. Such people should refrain from making statements or making allegations against judges. They are doing this on national TV.
At the same time, another lawyer appearing for Sengar said that photographs of High Court judges are also being circulated. Whereas Hariharan said that a video related to allegations against judges is also going viral and it is a matter of concern.
Attempts to defame judges should be condemned – Mehta
When asked on the issue of allegations being made against the judges, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), said clearly and candidly, ‘Both the judges of the Delhi High Court are impeccable, honest and talented and any attempt to defame them should be strongly condemned. He is counted among the best judges of the country. He said that there are always some elements present who try to intimidate honest judges and such crooked forces should not be encouraged.
Supreme Court put a stay on the order of Delhi High Court
The Supreme Court stayed the Delhi High Court order suspending Sengar’s life imprisonment in the 2017 Unnao rape case and said that he should not be released from custody.
