US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (8 March 2026) that he will not sign another bill until the ‘Save America Act’ is passed. Recently, while reiterating his demand for major changes in election and social policies in America, Trump had proposed ‘Save America Act’, in which strict rules related to elections have been mentioned.
Trump’s statement regarding ‘Save America Act’
In an interview with Fox News, activist Scott Pressler advocated the passing of this bill. Trump posted on Social Truth and wrote, ‘Scott Pressler has done a great job by asking for the passage of the Save America Act. This Act is an issue with 88 percent support of all voters. This should be passed immediately. This is above all other bills. As President, I will not sign any other bill until this bill is passed.
Trump said, ‘The ultimate goal of this bill is to sign and pass it, which makes it mandatory to show voter ID and proof of citizenship. Under this, no one will be allowed to vote by post except military personnel (disabled, sick, or those who are travelling). Trump also suggested using the filibuster to pass this bill.
Democrats opposed this bill
The Save America Act has strong support from House Republicans and has passed the lower chamber three times in the past few years. However, Democrats have opposed this bill, claiming that it will create challenges for registered voters and millions of people will be hesitant to vote.
Voting is already illegal for non-US citizens under US federal law and can lead to criminal charges and deportation. According to Democrats, the law will also affect voters who are already registered if they change their address, change their name or need to update their registration for any other reason.
Trump gave statement amid war in Middle East
All this is happening at a time when America is continuously attacking Iran in the Middle East. Trump is warning Iran to surrender unconditionally. The US President claims that after its attacks, Iran has apologized to its neighbors in West Asia, where Iran carried out air strikes, but media reports are telling a different situation. Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian made it clear that Iran stands firmly against those who attack it and will respond with force.
