During the budget session, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (February 11) targeted the government regarding the India-US trade deal. In his speech, Rahul Gandhi talked about taking advantage of Indian data. Raising questions on the trade deal, the Congress MP said that earlier 3 percent American tariff was imposed on India, which has now increased to 18 percent, that is, it has increased by 6 times.
A trade agreement was signed between India and America in the beginning of February itself. Under this deal, US President Donald Trump has reduced the reciprocal duty imposed on India from 25 percent to 18 percent. Apart from this, the additional duty of 25 percent imposed on India’s purchase of Russian oil has also been removed.
India could have made an alliance and made a better trade deal – Rahul Gandhi
Rahul said, the India alliance could have negotiated better with Trump on the trade deal. The Alliance would have argued that Indian data is most important in this equation. He said, “If we were talking to President Trump, we would say that Indian data is the most important asset that can protect the dollar.”
‘If we had talked, we would have kept three conditions’
He said that if India Alliance had negotiated with America, it would have kept three conditions. Rahul said, “President Trump, if you want access to this data, please understand that you will talk to us on an equal footing. You will not talk to us as if we are your subordinates. Second, you should understand that our energy is our energy security, we will protect it. Third, you have to protect your farmers, but we will also protect our farmers.”
targeted the government
Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, he said that the government has opened the doors to crush the poor farmers of the country. He alleged that the Indian textile industry has also been ‘finished’. He said, if America has to remain a superpower and protect the dollar, then the importance of Indian data will have to be understood.
