YouTube has been waging a war against ad blockers for some time. Now increasing this strictness further, YouTube has stopped showing comments and video descriptions to users who use ad blockers. Many users have complained about this on Reddit and X. Let us tell you that YouTube wants to push more and more people towards its premium subscription. Recently, the company has also added the lyrics coming on YouTube Music to the premium feature. Till now it was free.

For the past few days, many users on Reddit and X have claimed that they are not seeing comments under the video. Even after comments are activated on the video, the message ‘Comments are turned off’ is being shown to users using ad blockers. Similarly, many users have claimed that they are not even able to see the video description. When their ad block is enabled the description doesn’t load. Users said that as soon as the ad blocker is disabled, comments and video descriptions become visible.
No response from Youtube
Nothing has been said yet by YouTube regarding both these complaints, but the company has warned against using ad blockers on several occasions in the past. In 2023 and 2024, YouTube had asked users to remove ad blocker or take YouTube Premium subscription. In many cases, the company had also stopped video playback on devices with ad blockers.
Why are ad blockers a headache for YouTube?
Due to ad blocker, YouTube cannot run ads on videos, which reduces revenue. Actually, advertising is necessary for YouTube and its entire model is based on advertising. It is because of ads that YouTube has remained a free service instead of becoming a subscription based service like Netflix. This also gives creators a chance to earn money.
