USS Gerald R Ford Fire: USS Gerald R Ford’s fire not extinguished, leaving the battlefield and going to Greece, why a big blow to America?

Amidst the US-Israel war with Iran, bad news has come regarding America’s most powerful aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford. On March 12, the fire on the ship was seen burning for more than 30 hours. The situation became so bad that more than 600 American soldiers had to sleep on the floor. The warship is now being sent to Greece for repairing.

According to the New York Times report, the fire broke out in the laundry area of the warship, but gradually it spread to the interior as well. The inability to control a fire in a high-tech war machine like a ship for such a long time is also raising questions on America’s military preparedness. Many people are also raising the question whether the sailors, who had not been able to go home for months, set the fire. China is happy to see this incident in the midst of war.

Chinese military expert’s statement
Chinese military expert Wang Yunfei told the Global Times that high-tech warships have complex electrical systems and oil lines, due to which a fire spreads rapidly, but he clearly said that if the fire could not be controlled quickly, then it is an indication that either the automatic fire system did not work properly or there was a delay in response.

He also said that in warships of such a large scale, different parts are designed in such a way that fire cannot spread, but if hundreds of soldiers had to leave their living space, then it means that there was a deficiency in both fire control design and management. Wang Yunfei said that the crew should have taken immediate action as soon as the fire alarm sounded. If there is a delay in this then it also shows weakness in training.

Who set fire to the ship?
The fire broke out on America’s USS Gerald Ford at a time when this carrier has been deployed for 10 months. Aircraft carriers generally remain on deployment for 6 months. According to the Wall Street Journal, such a long deployment increases fatigue among soldiers, which can slow down response in an emergency.

There is speculation on social media whether the crew members themselves set the fire so that their ship could be sent back to America for repairs, although this is yet to be confirmed. The US Navy has said that this incident is being investigated. This fire is not the first problem. Earlier in February, technical glitches like closure of 650 toilets on the same ship had also come to light.
