Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has warned regarding the alleged attacks on Christians. Referring to the attack on a carol singing group in Palakkad, Kerala, the Thiruvananthapuram MP said that we should show solidarity with our Christian brothers.
Senior Congress leader Tharoor said that in my view this unity is very important and we are going through a period in which sadly Christians are being attacked in different parts of the country. The attack on a carol singing group in Palakkad is really shocking.
He said that when our traditions are attacked, not only Christians but all of us Indians are affected. Every Indian is attacked. Our constitutional guarantees of freedom of worship and freedom of belief are under attack and we must all stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers.
What did Tharoor say when the flight was delayed?
The Congress leader said that he used to go from one church to another every Christmas Eve, however this time due to the delay in his flight from Delhi, he could visit only four churches. He said that this year my flight from Delhi got delayed, so I could go to only 4 churches, but going there is always very special. Sometimes listening to just a part of the sermon and then attending midnight mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.
‘My experience of visiting church to church was very pleasant’
Shashi Tharoor said that my experience of visiting church to church was very pleasant. Especially at St. Mary’s Church, where Cardinal Cleemis, the head of the Syro-Malankara Church, Archbishop, called me onto the stage and fed me a piece of chocolate cake. The Congress leader emphasized that respecting the cultural traditions of all communities is the basic mantra of Kerala politics.
He said that I have been an MP for the last 17 years and showing solidarity with the members of my constituency is a fundamental thing, but showing respect for the cultural and religious traditions of all communities is the center point of Kerala politics.
