‘We have established 4000 temples, lied about the Hindus of Tamil Nadu’, Stalin furious at Amit Shah’s statement

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s allegation that the rights of Hindus are being taken away in Tamil Nadu is completely wrong and not in accordance with the dignity of his post. Addressing a government program here, the Chief Minister said that his government respects the beliefs of people of all religions and protects their religious rights.

He said, ‘In a state like Tamil Nadu, the Home Minister’s allegation that the rights of Hindus are being taken away is completely wrong and not in accordance with the dignity of his post. The truth is that the mentality of those who intended to create riots and division in the state has not succeeded.

Stalin said that such an incident will never happen in future and we will not let it happen. The president of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) said, ‘As long as this Stalin is here, this will not happen at all.’ The Chief Minister said, ‘Amit Shah is not aware of what is happening in Tamil Nadu. Till now our government has established 4,000 temples. Have you done this in your states? Surely, you wouldn’t have. Apart from this, property worth Rs 7,701 crore (7,655 acres of land) belonging to 997 temples has been recovered and the true devotees appreciate this work of the government.

Stalin said that during his visit to Tamil Nadu, the Union Home Minister not only made allegations but also asked the same questions which were necessary for us to ask. He said, ‘They have made our work easy and for this I want to thank them.’ He said, ‘Amit Shah asked the public, should there be Prime Minister Modi’s rule in Tamil Nadu or not? And this is what we have been saying.

Stalin said, ‘The 2026 assembly elections are to decide whether Tamil Nadu should be ruled by us? Or should the people of distant Delhi rule over us? And this is a challenge to the self-esteem of Tamils.

He said, ‘There is no need to explain to the people that if you vote for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance, then BJP will rule Tamil Nadu, because Amit Shah himself has given this statement.’

Stalin also alleged that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palanisamy is working hard for the BJP, which imposes the National Education Policy on Tamil Nadu, does not release education funds for the state, undermines the democratic power of Tamil Nadu under the guise of delimitation and insults Tamils in the northern states.

He alleged that after the demise of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, BJP’s ‘pseudo’ rule was established in Tamil Nadu. Stalin said that it is only in the last five years that Tamil Nadu has started to recover and stand strong again. Stalin said that during the 11-year rule of NDA at the Centre, nothing was done for the welfare of Tamil Nadu and hence, people are not ready to trust them.

During a public meeting in Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu on Sunday, Amit Shah had accused DMK of continuously insulting the Hindu religion and the sentiments of Hindus in the state. A senior leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center strongly criticized the Stalin government for the ‘atrocities’ committed on Hindus. He alleged that Hindu worship methods were being ‘insulted’ and claimed that an ‘undeclared curfew was imposed’ in the state during the Ayodhya Ram temple bhoomi pujan.

Amit Shah said, ‘Their (DMK) senior leaders call Sanatan Dharma as dengue and malaria. Hindu processions and (idol) immersion have been banned. I want to tell Stalin that you have violated constitutional values by committing atrocities against Hindus.
