‘We have nothing, the files were taken away by Mamata Banerjee’, ED tells High Court in I-PAC raid case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has demanded to postpone the hearing in the Calcutta High Court in the case of raid on the house of political consultancy firm I-PAC and its co-founder Prateek Jain, while the lawyer of Trinamool Congress opposed it. There was an argument between the two regarding this.

On behalf of the Enforcement Directorate, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju said that a similar petition is pending in the Supreme Court on which the hearing can be held soon, hence the hearing of this case should be postponed today. He said that the petition filed in the High Court making such a demand is also pending in the Supreme Court. TMC’s lawyer has opposed this. ASG SV Raju, while arguing in the High Court, said that no documents were seized by the investigating agency, on the contrary, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken the documents, she should form a party in this case.

TMC lawyer Maneka Guruswamy said, ‘We are not a party before the Supreme Court. Raids were conducted, our privacy should be maintained. We live in a constitutional democracy. We want our political data to be secure. There is a right to privacy.

TMC said that our demand is that our political data should be kept safe, it should not be released in the media nor should it be used for political purposes. TMC told the High Court that it is not a party in the Supreme Court. He also said that our privacy should have been taken care of during the search and we live in a constitutional democracy, where we have the right to privacy and we want our political data to be safe. He said that political data should not be released in the media.

On January 8, during the ED raid on the residence of I-PAC and Prateek Jain, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had arrived with senior officers. Regarding this, ED has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI investigation into 17 crimes under the Indian Justice Code. The petition alleged that Mamata Banerjee, DGP of Bengal and Police Commissioner of Kolkata not only obstructed the raid but also tampered with the evidence by intimidating and threatening the officers.
