Weather Update: Triple attack of heavy rain, snowfall and cold wave in the next 48 hours, Meteorological Department warns, what will happen in Delhi-UP?

The weather is changing rapidly across the country and the coming 24 to 48 hours may prove challenging for many states. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, between December 18 and 22, the effects of rain, strong winds, fog, cold wave and snowfall will be seen from South India to North and hilly areas. Due to the continuously active western disturbance, there are chances of the cold becoming more intense. The Meteorological Department says that this change may also affect traffic, flights and rail services. People need to be careful due to low visibility in many areas.

The weather may remain bad for a day in many parts of South India. There is a possibility of rain and lightning along with strong winds in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman-Nicobar region. There may be heavy rain in Chennai and surrounding areas. Due to incessant rains for the last few days, life has already been affected and there seems to be little hope of relief at the moment.

Winter will increase due to western disturbance

According to the Meteorological Department, two western disturbances will enter the country one after the other. The first disturbance will be active around December 18 and the second around December 20. Due to their influence, the weather may worsen in North India and hilly states. There is a possibility of snowfall along with rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while a drop in temperature may be recorded due to cold winds in the plains.

Effect of fog and cold wave in North India

Dense fog is affecting life in many states including Uttar Pradesh. Visibility is extremely low in the morning, due to which road and rail traffic has been affected. Many trains are running late and at some places the programs have come to the point of being cancelled. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding severe cold and fog in many districts of the state.

Trouble increases with cold in Delhi-NCR

Cold, fog and pollution have increased the problems of people in Delhi and surrounding areas. The minimum temperature may fall further in the next two days, which will increase the chill. The air quality remains in the very poor category and may reach severe levels in some areas. There are problems in transportation due to fog in the morning and night.

Cold outbreak in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan

Dense fog and cold winds are blowing in many districts of Madhya Pradesh. Traffic is being affected due to low visibility in Gwalior, Chambal and surrounding areas. At the same time, cold has started showing its anger in Rajasthan. In some areas the minimum temperature has gone down considerably and severe cold is being felt at night.

Chance of snowfall in hilly states

There may be snowfall in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days. Due to this, the temperature is likely to fall further. In some areas the mercury may reach near zero, due to which the cold will increase further. Travelers going towards the mountains have been advised to exercise caution in view of the weather.
