West Bengal: Danger of Nipah virus increases in Bengal! Suspect of infection in two nurses, health department on high alert

West Bengal News: Concern about Nipah virus has increased in the rainy area near Kolkata, West Bengal. Two nurses, a man and a woman, working in a private hospital here, have been admitted on suspicion of being infected with Nipah virus. The condition of both is said to be serious and they have been kept on ventilation.
According to the information received from Swasthya Bhavan, in the reports of samples sent to Kalyani AIIMS, it is feared that Nipah virus will be confirmed in both. The report has been sent to the Central Government for final confirmation.

Admitted to hospital on 31st December

The female nurse had gone to her home in Katoya in Purba Bardhaman district ten days ago. Shortly after reaching home, she suddenly fell ill. On December 31, he was admitted to Katoya Hospital, where he was treated for two days. When his condition worsened, he was sent to Bardhaman Medical College, where he was kept in ICU for two days.

Even after this, when his health did not improve, he was brought to his workplace, i.e. the private hospital in Barasat, in a special ambulance and immediately admitted to the isolation ward. He is currently on ventilation and his condition remains critical.

Same symptoms in other nurses too

Nipah-like symptoms have been found in another male nurse working in the same hospital. He has also been kept on ventilation in critical condition. Doctors say that the symptoms of both the nurses are similar and full caution is being taken regarding infection.

Nipah virus is considered a very deadly and high-risk disease. It is included in the list of notifiable diseases by the government, which means it is mandatory to give information about it to the Centre. The initial reports of both the cases have been sent to the Center by Swasthya Bhavan. Now the expert doctor will analyze the report and give the final confirmation.

Vigilance increased in the hospital

An isolation ward has been made in the private hospital of Barasat. Health workers have been instructed to work with PPE kits and all safety equipment. The health department has become alert in the surrounding areas also.
