West Bengal News: A heart-wrenching incident came to light in the early hours of Monday in Habibpur Ashutoshpur village of Ranaghat police station in Nadia district in West Bengal. A 70-year-old man named Anant Biswas attacked his daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law’s mother (Samdhan) with an ax and killed them. This incident was so horrifying that it spread sensation in the entire area. The police have arrested the accused old man and started investigating the entire matter.
According to local sources, the incident occurred at around 4 am on Monday morning. Anant Biswas quietly entered the house and indiscriminately attacked his sleeping daughter-in-law Shilpa Vishwas Mandal (27) and mother-in-law Swapna Mandal (50) with an axe. Both of them died tragically on the spot. It is being told that Shilpa Vishwas Mandal’s husband i.e. the son of the accused had gone to sell flowers at that time and the door of the house was open. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the accused committed this crime.
Tension increased after wife’s death
It is learned that Anant Biswas’s wife had died three days before the incident. For this reason Shilpa’s mother Swapna Mandal came to her daughter’s house. Family members and police believe that there was tension in the house for some days and due to this family dispute, the accused may have taken such a drastic step. Police have sent both the bodies for post-mortem.
As soon as the news of the incident spread, panic spread in the village. People came out of their homes and informed the police. Ranaghat police station immediately reached the spot and started investigation. Based on preliminary inquiry, police estimate that this crime is the result of a family dispute. Accused Anant Vishwas has been arrested and his interrogation is going on.
Many murder cases have come to light recently
Before this incident in Nadia, several murder cases were reported in Kolkata which were related to family disputes and tension in relationships. The latest case is from Park Street, Kolkata. Here his brother Dheeraj Jaiswal was arrested on charges of murder of elder brother Neeraj Jaiswal. According to police sources, there was a long-running dispute between the two brothers regarding the division of their father’s property.
When the dispute escalated on Tuesday, Dheeraj punched Neeraj. Neeraj fell headlong on the brick and died due to serious injuries. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the accused. Similarly, a case of murder of a woman Pooja Purkayastha came to light in Shyampukur also. Considering his death unusual at first, the hospital informed the police. Later the post-mortem revealed that she had been strangulated to death. The police also found a handwritten note from her husband. The allegation is that the husband suspected that the wife was having an extramarital affair, and on this suspicion he murdered her.
Husband surrenders after killing wife in Bagbazar
Another incident took place in Baghbazar where a man surrendered in the police station after killing his wife. During interrogation, he admitted that his wife was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair and this led to a dispute between the two. On Friday, the fight escalated so much that the husband killed his wife in anger. His plan was to make it look like a suicide, but he could not succeed.
These frequent incidents have raised concerns over the increasing incidents of domestic violence and family disputes in Bengal and surrounding areas. In most of the cases, anger, tension, suspicion and property disputes are the causes of murder. Police and social workers believe that lack of communication and mental stress in families are becoming major reasons for such incidents.
