West Bengal: Third tigress dies in three months, questions raised on the arrangements of Alipore Zoo

Tigress Dies in Kolkata Zoo: Once again worrying news has come out from Alipore Zoo in Kolkata. A tigress has died here. Surprisingly, this is the third death of a tigress within the last three months. These continuous incidents have raised many questions among the forest department, animal experts and common people.

Cause of death not clear even after post mortem

According to the information, the tigress was found dead last Tuesday night. After this, his post-mortem was done at Alipore Animal Hospital on Wednesday. At present the exact cause of death has not been revealed. Samples of viscera have been sent for testing and the report is awaited. The director of Alipore Zoo said that the post-mortem has been done as per the rules of the zoo and the situation will be clear after the report comes.

According to Van Bhawan sources, parasites have been found in the body of the dead tigress. However, experts believe that it is not normal for a tigress to die at such a young age just because of parasites. With proper treatment and timely care, life can be saved in such cases. For this reason, questions have started being raised on the maintenance and health system of the zoo.

Death at a young age increases concern

The age of the dead tigress is said to be around 2 years and 10 months. He was brought to Alipore from Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha in August last year. Experts say that this age is the time of growth of the tiger. The sudden death of the Royal Bengal Tiger at this age is being considered very worrying.

Earlier in the month of September, two tigresses had died within 24 hours in Alipore Zoo. At that time the reports said that her death was due to old age, but now the death of such a young tigress has raised questions on those reports too.

Experts expressed serious concern

Nature Environment and Wildlife Society Secretary Vishwajeet Roy Chowdhury said that until the post-mortem and viscera reports come, it is difficult to reach any conclusion. He appealed to the officials to conduct regular health checkups of tigers. He says that except cancer, most diseases are curable. Had she received timely treatment, perhaps this tigress’s life could have been saved.

The death of three consecutive tigresses in a few months has raised serious questions on the care system of Alipore Zoo. Now everyone’s eyes are on the post-mortem and viscera report, so that it can be clear why the tigress died at such a young age.
