Both of these are used to shut down the operation of the computer, but there is a slight difference between them. While Shutdown turns off your computer, Restart turns off the computer for a moment and then restarts it. But very few people know that there is a big difference between these two. What happens when you shut down?
In very old versions of Windows, the functions of shutdown and restart were the same, but this has changed after the arrival of Windows 8. There is a new feature called Fast Startup in the new Windows operating system. This is designed to reduce the long time it takes for your computer to start up. Because of this, when you shut down the computer, Windows gets setup quickly for the next time you turn it on. Shutting down Windows 10 closes all your programs and files, but the Windows kernel, the most important part of the operating system, does not close. It remains saved on the disk and the next time you turn on the system you do not have to wait long for it and it boots immediately.
What happens on restart?
On the other hand, when you restart the computer, it stops all the processes including the Windows kernel. This means that when the computer boots up again, you get a completely clean start. However, it takes some time to boot. Therefore, when you install any update or software or want to resolve any error, the system should be restarted.
