Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office (PMO) is now going to be shifted from the 78-year-old South Block to a new modern complex. This change is part of the Central Vista project. The new campus has been named ‘Seva Teerth’, which reflects the spirit of service. Since independence, PMO was located in South Block. The Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry were also here. But now a big change is going to happen.
Which offices will be there in the new Seva Tirtha?
The new complex is the Seva Tirtha Complex, located on Dara Shikoh Road near Vijay Chowk, at the foot of Raisina Hill. The complex is state-of-the-art with open floor space, modern meeting rooms, elements of Indian culture, exclusive cabinet meeting rooms and superior facilities. This will increase cooperation and speed up the work. It has three high-tech buildings-
- Seva Teerth-1: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will be here.
- Seva Teerth-2: There will be Cabinet Secretariat here, which has already been shifted.
- Seva Teerth- 3: The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the office of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will be here.
When will PMO be shifted to the new office?
According to reports, two auspicious times have been fixed for shifting of PMO. The first is on 14 January 2026, i.e. on the day of Makar Sankranti. Second, between January 19 and January 27, i.e. till Gupt Navratri. However, if the finishing work is not completed by then, shifting may take place in February also.
During construction, PMO was named Executive Enclave, but later it was changed to ‘Seva Teerth’.
What is Central Vista Project?
The Central Vista project was announced in September 2019. On December 10, 2020, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the project. The government has kept a budget of Rs 20 thousand crore for the entire project. The area on either side of the duty path is called Central Vista.
Under this project, re-development and construction of many buildings from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate is included. In this, a new Parliament House, Central Secretariat for the offices of the Ministry, Prime Minister’s residence, Vice-President’s residence will be constructed. The new Parliament House and the Vice-President’s Enclave are already ready.
National Museum will be built in both the blocks
Under this, CCS including 10 office buildings and a convention center will be built on the duty path for all the ministries, out of which three buildings have almost been built. After shifting of all the offices, both the blocks will be converted into ‘Yuge Yugin Bharat National Museum’.
